Statement of Faith

At Hexham Community Church we believe:

• In the one true God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
• In God who is King of all – who created, sustains, rules, saves and who will judge mankind.
• That the bible is the inspired word of God, that it is trustworthy and essential for teaching us about faith and conduct.
• That though all people are made in the image of God, because man has corrupted himself, he deserves God’s judgement.
• That God sent His own Son, Jesus Christ, to become a man, born of a virgin, and though He was a man He was still God and was without sin.
• The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, was a once and for all act that reconciled us with God because He died in our place paying the price, with His life, for our sin.
• That Jesus rose form the dead as a man; that He ascended to heaven where he is seated at God’s right hand praying for us.
• That it is only by faith that we are saved.
• In the person of the Holy Spirit, who leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ when we are born again and empowers us as His disciples by giving us gifts and by filling our lives.
• In the church, which is Christ’s body here on earth, and that as part of that body we each have a part to play being led by the Holy Spirit, using the gifts of the Spirit in worship, proclamation of the good news about Jesus and to promote love and justice.
• That Jesus will come again to fulfil the purposes of God. At that time everyone will be judged and there will be a division made between those who have and have not accepted Jesus as their saviour.  Those who have believed will spend eternity in the new heaven and earth established by God. Those who have not believed will spend eternity separated from God.
